Abstract

The article discusses fraternization between Union and Confederate soldiers during the U.S. Civil War conflict known as the Siege of Petersburg in Petersburg, Virginia, in 1864 and 1865. It examines the concept of resistance to authority as a method by which soldiers expressed individualism, the concept of the third space, and the trading of goods among soldiers.
