Abstract

It's well known that sea buckthorn berries are rich in vitamins, carotenoids, flavonoids, and other biologically active components with significant therapeutically properties. The main polyphenolic compounds from sea buckthorn fresh juice were identified and quantified using HPLC-DAD method and the ß-carotene content was determined using the spectrophotometric method. The extractions were performed using four different solvents. The sea buckthorn juice was fractional extracted using: diethyl ether (Fraction A), methanol (Fraction B), HCl 10% (Fraction C) and hot water (Fraction D). The separation, identification and quantification of the phenolic compounds were done using an adapted USP30 HPLC method. The content of ß-carotene was determined in Fraction A using the spectrophotometric method performed at 450 nm. The results indicate the presence of ß-carotene in Fraction A (7.012 mg/100 mL fresh juice) and also the presence of valuable phenolic compounds found in all four studied fractions of sea buckthorn fresh juice.
