Abstract
- The article discusses the status of athlete activism in America as of 2017 in relation to African American football player Michael Bennett who was detained by police officers following reports of shots fired near a casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to the article, the Las Vegas, Nevada police union denies that Bennett's detention was race-related. Police-related deaths involving African Americans are addressed, along with quarterback Colin Kaepernick's U.S. national anthem protests.
