Abstract
- Less than two years after completing an outdoor sculpture commission (one of the works, right) in Boston's seaport, David Phillips received a call from his client Fidelity Investments, which told the artist of its plans to makeover the park. Fidelity spokesman John Brockelman says the company simply wanted to add more trees and walkways. Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts told Phillips he might have a case under the Massachusetts Art Preservation Act. In October, a Massachusetts court agreed, ruling that the act, designed to protect artists from having their work distorted, prevents Fidelity from removing the works or altering the landscape for which they were created.
