Discusses the use of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) to treat patients with thalassemia and sickle cell disease. Reservation of HSCT to children with sickle-related morbidity; Alternative of patients lacking compatible family donors; Safety of cord blood compared to bone marrow for HSCT in pediatric patients.
