Abstract

The status of some Short Food Supply Chains (SFSC) initiatives in Panama was studied. The aims are to identify some strengths and weaknesses and to contribute with practical lessons that will help to identify ways in which producers, consumers and the public sector can act (and interact) to promote these SFSC. The methodology consisted in the bibliographic review of cases of interest and conducted interviews. As a result, the strengths and weaknesses of the Panamanian cases studied are identified and recommendations are made. The limitations were the scarce scientific literature on this topic in Panama and the lack of records of the participants in the initiatives. In conclusion, community involvement is the main strength, while lack of adequate training is the main weakness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
