Abstract

The effect of an initial pre-compressive stress load on the low-velocity impact wear behavior of Inconel 690 alloy tubes was investigated. Interface dynamic response and damage behavior were evaluated under varied pre-stress loads. With the increase in pre-stress, tube deflection decreased, whereas the contact peak force and wear scar areas increased. Moreover, the energy absorption ratio gradually decreased and finally reached equilibrium. Analysis of the wear scars revealed that both iron and oxygen contents increased in the wear region. Furthermore, numerous surface delamination were observed in the impact area. Thus, fatigue spalling and oxidation are the wear mechanisms of the impact-fretting wear of Inconel 690 alloy tubes.
