Abstract

The present article will try to concentrate on the potential role that information and communication technologies can play in the public space, and in particular on its expansion that is conceived here as material and constructible as the most accustomed and socially recognized, inexcusably urban and traditionally architectural. At the same time, it tries to question the diverse conceptions of democracy, citizenship and its relation with that public space in its material scope and its modes of appropriation with the technologies of information and communication. In this way, we question the paralyzing inertia that has characterized intercommunicative relations between the State, parties, social movements and civil society, and which are still as blocked as they have been throughout history, among other reasons, by the conceptual narrowness of hegemonic conceptions of public space.
