Abstract

The literature on poverty has gone through advances and changed the data based only focus on monetary income to include other dimensions that best explain the poverty phenomenon. This article aims to apply the Alkire Foster Method (AF), which underpins the multidimensional poverty index (MPI) of UNDP, to analyze poverty among women of Brazilian regions in 2012. For the study the information was used the National Survey by Household Sampling (PNAD). Four dimensions were defined and eighteen indicators for calculating poverty measures. The results showed disparities between the major regions of the country and found that the microcomputer possession indicators, years of education, income range and garbage disposal had the highest deprivation in all major regions.
