Abstract

Russia and its foreign policy have led to tensions on the old continent. The current paper is part of a broader work in which policy and language are analyzed in parallel, thanks to Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) tools. This analysis will help us to better understand the social and dialectical strengthening of Russian nationalism and its impact on Russian internal and foreign policies. Therefore, we will be able to reconstruct meta-narratives and prejudices that are imposed nowadays in Putin's Russia. This way we will better understand in which way those narratives are used to maintain political support, even when the economic and social situations are not stable. We will especially focus on the idea of "Great Russia" -Velikaya Rossiia- and how Kremlin authorities have developed discursive instruments around this notion and forged on in its foreign policy and the use of the adjective "natsionalny" for domestic policies. Existing linguistic corpora in Russian and other sources gathered for this paper will show us the advantages of CDA over other more generalizing analyses. Our conclusions will bring us to the examples of Crimea and Ukraine, where nationalistic Russian discourse has materialized. We conclude by acknowledging the necessity of further research in this area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
