Abstract

The article discusses research which examined the fecal microbial transplantation (FMT) to treat life-threatening sepsis. Topics discussed include antimicrobial and steroidal therapy disrupting the microbiome and causing alterations in epithelial permeability and the role of normal microbiota in maintaining epithelial structure and function.
