Abstract
- The author discusses the story "The Disputation between the Greeks and the Romans" in the book "Libro de buen amor" which portrays the Libro and its author as parodies of authority. Topics covered include the critiques on the common Disputation-Libro obsession with hermeneutics and Augustinian sign theory, and scholars' proposals of varied origins for the episode. The author argues that their rereadings inform sign theory translation into fiction and narrate Latin authority in the vernacular.
