Abstract

The article discusses various historical and legal developments involving American Samoa and the Citizenship Clause contained in the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution as of 2017, and it mentions the U.S. Supreme Court's Insular Cases which deal with the constitutional rights that are extended to territorial residents. It states that a U.S. appellate court court rejected a request to extend constitutional birthright citizenship to American Samoa in the case Tuaua v. United States.
