Abstract

Migraine is one of the most common and disabling neurological disorders. About 12% of the adult population in occidental countries suffer from this issue, with higher prevalence during the productive working period and deeply affecting women. In order of crisis intensity and frequency, it could be considered a chronic pathology. Both patients and physicians in charge are constantly looking for alternatives to pharmacological therapy, which, while effective in the short term, may have unwanted and severe long-term side effects. The clinical case that we will describe shows the concordance between the usual practice of medical acupuncture and the positive results in intensity and frequency in a migraine crisis that multiple clinical trials published in indexed magazines demonstrate. This is the reason that acupuncture indications in headache and migraine are included in Clinical Guidelines like the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
