Abstract

The article focuses on a research report related to the design scope based on the capability approach (CA) from development economics and extended scope of design for complex design situations like the bottom of the (economic) pyramid (BoP). It mentions poverty is considered as a differentiating factor for the BoP and product design targets specific undesirability in a tangible problem, such as drudgery faced by rural women as a result of inefficient cook stoves. It also mentions the report of the United Nations related to people residing in slums and death of children as a result of preventable diseases.
