Abstract

The cold resistances of 18 banana germplasms seedling were studied by changes of physiological and morphological indices under low temperature treatment. The result showed that overlap was found in the cold-resistance relevant information provided by individual physiological indices, so it could not be used to evaluate the cold resistance of banana germplasms directly and accurately. 3 comprehensive indices were extracted from the eight individual physiological indices by principal component analysis, which was used for evaluate the cold resistance of eighteen banana germplasms. And the cold resistance evaluation of 18 bananas was done by these comprehensive indices. They declined in sequence from LT, Fenza, Jinfen 1, Guangdongfenjiao, SNT, LNS, Guijiaoqing 7, HLT, LE, SNY, LNF, HA, NLF, HR, Guijiao6, SDW, ZNF, to HLE. ?Vlso, these germplasms could be classified into three groups by hierarchical cluster analysis. The first group, included LT, Fenza and Jinfen 1, showed the highest cold resistance, the third group contained HLE, SDW, Guijiao 6 and ZNF with the minimum effects. The rest germplasms were clustered into the second group, which revealed medium cold resistance. The result was similar to the morphological evaluation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
