Abstract
- The article discusses the production and consumption of the songs "China Night" and "Japanese Rumba," and their significance to U.S. soldiers and officers in Allied-occupied in Japan following World War II. The author discusses the concept of so-called "G.I. songs" and the symbolism of the experience of U.S. military personnel in occupied Japan contained in the lyrics and melodies of the songs, the concept of exoticism, and stereotypes and cultural misunderstandings in the songs.
