Abstract

A study of the scarab beetles fauna of Huehuetitla canyon, in Tlaxcala state, Mexico is presented. Samples were obtained from August 2008 to December 2009 in Juniperus forest and secondary vegetation located at elevation of 2,600 m. We obtained 2,751 specimens than represent five families, seven subfamilies and 23 species of the following genera: Phyllophaga, Diplotaxis, Cyclocephala, Orizabus, Lygirus, Xyloryctes, Chrysina, Paranomala, Cotinis, Euphoria, Eucanthus, Labarrus, Cephalocyclus, Liothorax, Gonaphodiellus and Trox. The genus with the highest number of species was Phyllophaga (5 spp.), while Cephalocyclus fuliginosus was the most abundant specie with the 50.4% of the total sample. In addition, by mean of Parsimony Analysis of Endemism the relationship with other regional faunas is presented, where Huehuetitla canyon is grouped together with the faunas of Michilía, Durango and Villa de Allende, Estado de México. Its generic composition has a predominance of elements belonging to Paleoamerican pattern followed by elements of the Mexican Plateau. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
