Abstract

Reports on the possibilty that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) Bates Linear Accelerator could be closed down by the end of the 1990s and that other nuclear physics experiments will be abandoned if the United States Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Science Foundation do not boost funding. Competition the Bates Accelerator has with the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility in Virginia.
