Abstract

The sector of poultry in Egypt are exposed to many of the production and marketing risks, this lead to fluctuation and instability of poultry production and fluctuating incomes of producers. This research aimed to identify the most important sources of risk and uncertainty in the field of broilers production in Gharbia Governorate. The research relied on secondary published and unpublished data, in addition to the primary data have been collected through a questionnaire from a sample of poultry producers in Gharbia Governorate. The most important results of the research are as follows: The coefficient of variation for prices of chicks, maize, feed and soybean prices were, respectively about 43.2%, 6.6%, 5% and 1,1%. The average costs to produce a ton of broilers meat in Gharbia Governorate were about 11.3, 10.8, 10.7 thousand pounds for the three categories, respectively. Feed and chicks costs represent about 82.9%, 83.8%, 84.6% of the cost of production per ton of broilers for the three categories, respectively, while The cost of the rent, wages of workers, medicines, the cost of the bedding, and the cost of energy in the next place, respectively, which represent 17.1%, 16.2% and 15.4% of the cost of the production per ton of broilers for the three categories respectively. The net revenue amounted to 316.2, 669.5 and 851.7 pounds per ton of broilers for the three categories, respectively, and the return on the pound spent was about 0.03, 0.06 and 0.08 pounds, also the ratio of total revenue to total costs estimated at 102.7%, 106% and 107.7%, as well as the profitability of the pound spent was about 2.7%, 6% and 7.7%. Finally, the profit margin ratio of the producer amounted to about 2.7%, 5.6% and 7.2% for the three categories, respectively. Internal rate of return for a poultry farm in Gharbia Governorate is estimated at 7.9%, 21.4% and 32.9% for the three categories, respectively. The research results showed high sensitivity broilers project to change in the price of poultry meat which has been ranked as the highest risk elements, plus to the change in the prices of feed and chicks, finally the mortality ratio, in the other side in the first category was the high sensitivity towards changing in these elements.
