Abstract

A biography of African American abolitionist Osborne Perry Anderson is presented. He was a member of abolitionist John Brown's 1859 Raid on Harpers Ferry and one of only three men to escape capture. He was born 1830 in West Fallowfield, Pennsylvania to his free black parents. He worked for the first newspaper published by a free black women Mary Ann Shadd, the "Provincial Freeman." AFter the U.S. Civil War, Anderson moved to Washington D.S. and died of tuberculosis in 1872.
