Abstract

The modern cooperative movement is historically associated with a struggle for recognition of the services performed by its members in the context of market relations. There are, however, social, political and cultural issues in the context of cooperative practices that can accommodate educational and learning processes. Members learn from the social and economic relations behind cooperation since different practices and educational activities can be found in cooperatives, even if diluted in its membership dealings. This paper wishes to reflect on the relationship between education and cooperation in order to encourage critical thinking on the part of members of a cooperative so that they may play an active role in their organizations. The passage draws on the theoretical and critical reflections stemming from the authors' many decades of experience with cooperative organizations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
