Abstract

Laboratory sessions of the introductory chemistry course at the University of Aveiro are restricted to two hours. Thus, the more time an experiment takes, the less time for the discussions of the results and conclusions. This problem has become more acute in recent times as the field of chemistry is becoming more sophisticated. In response the authorities have developed an electrolysis experiment with shorter deposition times and thus shorter total experiment times. Students are attracted to novel instrumentation, especially if a relationship to real-world components exists.
