Abstract
- The article reports on the emergence of a war of attrition in Iraq as the government seeks to retake the city of Mosul from the Islamic State (ISIS) group. It mentions the high casualties of Iraqi security forces and civilians from ISIS attacks, how civilians trapped inside the city are running low on food as well as drinking water and are at risk of cruelty from ISIS, and the challenge facing Iraqi soldiers with the use of air power and artillery as many civilians opted to remain in the city.
