Abstract
- The article discusses the rest and calm that the late American writer David Foster Wallace found in college towns in the Midwest. Topics covered include Wallace's decision to live anonymously in rural Illinois according to the biography "The End of the Tour" by D. T. Max, the role of the Midwest's meditative spaces and down-to-earth people in Wallace's writing, and growing up in Champaign-Urbana in Illinois. Wallace's death via suicide at age 46 in 2008 is also mentioned.
