Abstract

A narrative review which examined the effects of obesity treatments including bariatric surgery, weight loss preparations and dietary restriction on bone health based on systematic reviews and meta-analyses, is presented. Topics covered include reductions in hip bone mineral density (BMD), increases in bone turnover relative to pre-treatment values and the potential of liraglutide in increasing bone mineral content (BMC) and reducing fracture risk.
