Abstract

This article presents a case study related to allergic contact conjunctivitis without eyelid involvement. Allergic contact conjunctivitis is common in ophthalmology, preservatives being the most frequent sensitzers. A 72-year-old woman, who had been using numerous ophthalmic preparations for chronic conjunctivitis, complained that it had worsened after instilling antibiotic eyedrops. Her eyelids were uninvolved. Although ophthalmic preparations that contain neomycin are widely prescribed, allergic contact conjunctivitis due to this antibiotic has only occasionally been reported in the literature.
