Comparative Assessments of the State of Democracy in East-Central Europe and Its Anchoring in Society.

The article evaluates the state of democracy in four East-Central European (ECE) countries ten years after their accession to the European Union (EU). Topics discussed include the state of democracy in the European Union member countries, the state of government and the degree of political dealignment in the member countries, and the anchors of democracy including economic development, organized interests, and perceptions of the EU.
