This article presents a systematic approach to the intellectual Latin American field in the third quarter of the 20th century, that is in the years that anticipate the advent of neo-liberalism. The study offers a historical analysis of the concept of development, as well as an exploration of the economic and cultural trends that contributed to the installment of this concept.
