Abstract

In this paper we are concerned with the task of describing how the process of completing high school and entering into an unknown milieu, like college, is experienced by young people. To that end, we first analyze, on the one hand, the shock and bewilderment to which such event gives rise, and, on the other hand, how the students' possibility conditions and their educational background are brought into play in their transition to this new level of education. Thus, the different and heterogeneous educational and life experience that young people bring with them are put in contrast with the "homogeneous" practices that the university asks all individuals who want to join it. Furthermore, we consider what strategies they bring into play, from their subjectivity, in order to stay in college. In this respect, it is extremely important to examine how entrants to college construe their relationship with knowledge and how their relationship with "academic! knowledge determine certain fissures and raise new questions. This paper is the result of our participation as members of the research program: "College Admissions. The relationship with knowledge and the building of subjectivity", conducted by Dr Facundo Ortega, that is under way at the Center for Advanced Studies of the National University of Cordoba.
