Abstract

Genetic variation characteristics and important quantitative traits of phalaenopsis flower diameter were studied to provide reicrences for rationally evaluating, exploring and utilizing the existing germplasm resources. IS varieties of Phalaenopsis were used as materials. 10 quantitative traits and flower diameter were measured. The data were statistically processed using correlation, path, and stepwise regression analyses , and multivariate regression equations were calculated. The results were as follows. (i) The correlation coefficients were difierent between Phalaenopsis flower diameter and each quantitative trait, and the correlation coefficient of nr3 (sepal length),( sepal width) , *7 (petal length) and % (petal width) was over 0.9. (ii)The path coefficients of %s for flower length were the largest, 1.805, and was significant different ({ =0. 05) ; (iii) The multivariate regression equation was j\ — 3. 685 t 2. 546ut5 for flower length, and -4. 884 t 0. 395yj +0.017*I +0.062 x2 +0.074 -0.03 -r4 +0.45 x5 -0. 14 x6 -0.252 r7 +0.65 r8 +0.392 x9 -1.067 vLf} for flower width. It can be concluded that the highest correlation is between phalaenopsis flower diameter and sepal length. Sepal length is the main factor affecting flower diameter, so sepal length can be used as the top breeding parameter for increasing flower diameter. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
