Abstract

The compact representation of integers is an important consideration in areas such as data compression. In this paper a novel, simple, and effective approach for lossless compression of large-dynamic-range integer sequences is presented. It is shown that the proposed code is better than other codes for stepwise distributions. An optimization method for finding the optimal coding parameters is described. The method links the optimization to curve fitting. Because of the simplicity of the coding scheme, the data compression algorithms can be implemented using hardware circuitry to meet the requirements of real-time applications.
