Abstract

Chemical states of the ions in air annealed Sr3Co2Fe24O41Z-type hexaferrite have been investigated with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Results showed that both Fe3+and Fe2+existed in the sample with a Fe2+percentage of 36.3%. The binding energies of the Fe3+and Fe2+were close to those of spinel ferrites like Fe3O4and CoFe2O4. Both Co2+and Co3+existed in the sample with a Co3+percentage of 21.3%. The binding energies of the Co2+and Co3+were close to those of CoFe2O4and NiCo2O4.All the strontium in the sample existed in a divalent state with a binding energy similar to those of SrCO3and SrTiO3.The majority of the oxygen in the sample (89.3%) existed as the lattice O2−. The above results showed that the chemical states of magnetic ions in air annealed Sr3Co2Fe24O41Z-type ferrite were close to those in the spinel structure ferrites with similar elements.
