Abstract
- Washington State won by thinking how it could help Boeing Co. compete with Airbus. State and local government officials, labor leaders and community activists took a "one strategy, one voice" approach to Boeing's announcement in May 2002 that it would hold a U.S. competition for the final assembly site to build the 7E7 airplane. Company president and CEO Harry Stonecipher said the $3.2-billion pledge wasn't the deciding factor, citing the ready availability of Everett, Washington State's experienced workforce and the productivity gains it has made over the past three years.
