O USO DA TOXINA BOTULÍNICA COMO TRATAMENTO PALIATIVO NA DOR MIOFASCIAL.

Botulinum toxin is the product of fermentation of Clostridium botulinum, an anaerobic Gram-positive. Commercially, there botulinum toxin in Forms A and B, biological agents obtained in laboratory. Arguably, the botulinum toxin can selectively weaken painful muscles, interrupting the spasm-pain cycle. With regard to pain, several publications have demonstrated the efficacy and safety of botulinum toxin in the treatment of tension-type headache, migraine, chronic back pain and myofascial pain. It has for many years considered a disease promoter. At present it is considered a versatile therapeutic agent for the treatment of muscle disorders. The objective of this study was to demonstrate through a case report the application of botulinum toxin, its effectiveness and its side effects in the treatment of myofascial pain in dentistry.
