Abstract
- The overall objective of this study was to study the Temporomandibular Disorders and Orofacial Pain and its associated factors among adults in the city of Maringá - PR. The specific objectives were: To describe the sample according to socio-demographic factors; estimate the prevalence of TMD and Orofacial Pain; know the factors associated with TMD and Orofacial Pain; describe the association between TMD and Orofacial Pain with psychosocial aspects and its relation to the quality of sleep. The method used was a cross-sectional population-based study, the population of the city of Maringá, Paraná. The information referred to were obtained through structured interviews conducted in households of the population studied, conducted from August 2011 to March 2014. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Faculty Inga with the CAAE 0071.0.362.000-11 and the Opinion number 0071/11. The study population was comprised of people aged 20 to 65, Public Health Service users in Maringá - PR. The study population consisted of 568 people aged 20 to 65, Public Health Service users in Maringá - PR. For data collection was used a structured, standardized and pre tested, containing demographic, socioeconomic, behavioral, psychosocial, and sleep-related. Axis II of the application of the RDC / TMD (socioeconomic and psychosocial factors and positioning and joint movement); Axis I application of the RDC / TMD (issue 1-7) - (positioning factors and joint movement); Sleep Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ). With respect to the independent variables, demographic variables were analyzed: sex, age, color / race, ethnicity and marital status; socioeconomic variables: education, occupational status and family income; psychosocial variables; of health status and morbidity conditions. After the selection of patients, a lists of possession with containing the same address, structured interviews were conducted, following the sequence: a) Reading and Consent Form signature by the patient; b) Application of Axis II of the RDC/ TMD (socioeconomic and psychosocial factors and positioning and joint movement); c) Application of Axis I RDC/ TMD - (positioning factors and joint movement); d) Sleep Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ). After the questionnaires, these were tabulated in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets Package 2010. The results show that 77.5% of respondents had sleep disorders. Regarding quality of life, psychological and social relationships domains were those with the highest quality of life while the one with lower quality of life was the self-control evaluation of quality of life.
