Abstract

The quantification of training loads by using heart rate variability (HRV) indices is a recognized method for individual training prescription. The present study investigates whether or not intensity zones determ ined by individual HRV change in relation to aerobic performance over a m id-term training period. Recreational runners were recruited for an endurance tra in ¬ ing over 12 weeks. A graded exercise test with spirom etry was performed at baseline and after the intervention. Additionally, possible changes of training prescriptions were investigated. Over the intervention period the lower and upper lim it of the ta rget heart rate in intensity zone I increased significantly. Subjects also significantly improved in performance parameters. Load quantification by HRV indices is progressive and pays attention to the individual fitness level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
