Abstract
- This article presents information on investigation regarding human impact on orca, a top marine predator, as of January 2004. The last eight years have witnessed dramatic declines in the resident population of orca whales in the southern Puget Sound, Washington. Only long-term research can put a finger on the pulse of these ecosystem-level dynamics and determine the future viability of the community. One can work with researcher Ken Balcomb and Astrid van Ginneken to look for orca pods and observe their behavior in and near Friday Harbor.
