Abstract

The article focuses on Social Security Administration (SSA) piloting policy change for disabled youth in foster care to apply for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits before transitioning from foster care. Topics discussed include applications to be accepted from disabled foster youth regardless of age from August 2016 to July 2017; policy change recognizes sudden loss of financial support by disabled foster youth; and extension of application timeframe till end of foster care.
