Abstract

This article discusses Russia's foreign policy to Syria after the events of the Arab Spring of 2011. Since the beginning Russian diplomacy advocated the preservation of the Syrian government of Bashar Hafez al-Assad, understanding that the "rebels" sponsored by the United States and its European allies and Middle Eastern would lead to destabilization and the advancement of Sunni Islamic fundamentalism in the region. The result was that the crisis of the US post-intervention Iraq in 2003 and the civil war in Syria resulted in the destabilization of the region, the creation of the Islamic state and a huge influx of displaced people and refugees. Similarly, while the Russian government supports the fight against jihadism through alliances between Syrian government, Iran and other powers, the United States and its allies prefer to bomb both.
