Abstract

The article focuses on debate over the extent warmer temperatures in Arctic regions has on climate and weather extremes at lower latitudes. It examines the role of the polar vortex in weather systems which can result in cold spells in mid-latitudes and warmer weather in the Arctic and mentions cooling over central Asia and eastern United States compared to that seen previously. It considers a null hypothesis on the thermodynamic aspects of climate change and predictions of numerical models.
