Representações folclóricas mato-grossenses na obra de João Sebastião da Costa.

We can clearly see in history and art criticism , the existence of hierarchies of delimiting the distance between art and craft . These forms of categorizations define artists originating from popular social classes, often self-taught , as primitive or naïve , occurring so the coloniality devices. On this perspective , we present in this article the artist João Sebastião Francisco da Costa. His productions have strong cultural elements , myths, legends , stories told by fishermen from riverside community , appearing in forms of paintings , ceramic sculptures , paper for drawing and stamping on fabrics . These iconographic images created by the artist, represent the culture of Mato Grosso, and inspiring reference for many other artists that link the arts scene in the state. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
