Abstract

The article presents several case studies related to the effect of amyl nitrite on lower esophageal sphincter relaxation (LES) during peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM). It presents a case 59-year-old man who underwent POEM for type III achalasia and a 38-year-old woman who underwent POEM for type II achalasia. It highlights that administration increases heart rate of patient. It informs that amyl nitrite is a safe method to relax LES for creation of a submucosal tunnel to avoid mucosal injury.
