Abstract

Brown rot can be caused by four related pathogenic agents: Monilinia laxa (Aderh. et Ruhl.) Honey, Monilinia fructigena (Aderh. Et Ruhl.) Honey, Monilinia fructicola (G. Wint.) Honey and Monilia polystroma van Leeuwen. The composition of Monilinia species on sweet cherry fruit was not yet investigated in Lithuania. The aim of this study was to establish the Monilinia spp. species common on sweet and sour cherry fruit in the stone fruit collection at the Institute of Horticulture, LRCAF, based on molecular methods. The total of 72 samples were randomly sellected in 2013 in this stone fruit collection. The samples were identified on Monilinia species level using multiplex PCR. A quarantine pathogen M. fructicola was was established that the most common Monilinia species in this collection was M.laxa. This pathogen progressively diplaces the rival pathogenic agent M. fructigena cousing brown rot on sweet and sour cherry fruit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
