Abstract

The article discusses the link between reduced photoperiod and increased early sexual maturation of male Atlantic salmon. The early maturation of male salmons is undesirable in the fish farming industry due to poor growth performance, feed conversion efficiency and reduced quality. Also discussed are the ways to reduce early maturation including photoperiod control, selective breeding, and triploidy.
