Abstract

Objective: analyze the socio-demographic and psychiatric characteristics of patients admitted to the psychosocial care center. Method: exploratory, retrospective and descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, of 375 patient records in the psychosocial care center in the state of Minas Gerais (Brazil) from 1997 to 2013. Results: patients are more frequently admitted the service during the acute phase, followed by the prodromal and recovery phases. The lowest average age of patients is in the acute phase. During all stages of the psychosis most are male, single, of low education and with schizophrenia. There has been gradual increase in the psychiatric comorbidity of prodromal, acute and recovery, and most have family history of psychiatric disorder. Conclusion: the demand for attention to psychotic crisis in the psychosocial care center is for patients with symptoms in the acute phase, men, single, with low schooling and with the diagnosis of schizophrenia.
