Abstract
- Attitudinal research on America's position on cultural diversity remains largely unreported and neglected. By way of logistic regression, this paper employs national level data to investigate the degree to which the approval of intimate intergroup contact, as well as a number of other explanatory variables is linked to support for either multiculturalism or assimilation. While significant quantitative differences were not found on most variables, including race, support for intermarriage and interracial dating did significantly predict the likelihood of support for assimilation. The author finds in this paper that in the midst of the confusion in America on racial inclusion and cultural diversity, intergroup unions stand out as a significant factor in the formation of support for the creation of a common culture.
