Establishing sickle cell diagnostics and characterizing a paediatric sickle cell disease cohort in Malawi.

The article presents information on a study which established sickle cell diagnostics (SCD) and characterized a paediatric sickle cell disease cohort in Malawi. The study reports baseline clinical and laboratory characteristics of children with confirmed SCD. These data provide a foundation for future studies to understand the natural histoch ry of SCD in Malawi and develop intervention strategies appropriate for the setting to improve outcomes.
