Historiography has neglected Italian immigrant journalism and press in the region of the Rio de la Plata, and more generally in South America, for a long time. This trend has been interrupted only recently thanks to some targeted studies that, in addition to an interest in the editorial aspects of those media, have focused on the men and women who have animated them, by preserving their identity. In this paper, through a comparative analysis, the author focuses on the myriad of ethnic newspapers in the Italian language in Argentina and Uruguay (country inexplicably neglected by scholars of Italian emigration), and briefly reconstructs the story in relation to migration flows, since 1841, when the first Italian magazine of the area object of attention was founded in Montevideo, up to the present.
