Abstract
- This article reports that hospitals across the U.S. are treating neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) through such approaches as weaning a newborn off opioids and increasing contact between mother and newborn immediately after birth. Topics discussed include the instances of NAS over the decade ending in 2009, the cost of caring for infants suffering from NAS as of 2012, and the ways Congress is addressing the issue, including passing the Protecting Our Infants Act in November 2015.
